Europe by Interrail

A rail journey from Scandinavia to Greece and back, crossing Europe one station at a time.

All the Way South

Interrail in 2005 was one of those trips where the map kept getting longer every day. I started in the north and kept chasing warmer air, bigger stations, and stranger timetables all the way down through Europe.

The goal was simple: keep moving south until we reached Greece. Long nights on trains, quick platform meals, and morning arrivals in cities we had only seen on paper maps made every day feel like a mini expedition.

Greece and the Way Back

Reaching Greece felt like hitting the edge of the plan. After that, we turned around and made the full journey back again, carrying more stories than luggage.

What I remember most is the rhythm: departures, arrivals, and the feeling that Europe was connected by rails and chance conversations. The return trip had a different energy, calmer and fuller, with every stop feeling like a memory in progress.
