Frontend Forum, or FEF as we call it, is a bi-weekly gathering I run for the front-end guild at Gjensidige.

I started the forum when I became a front-end discipline leader at Gjensidige in 2022. My goal was to create a strong internal front-end community: a regular place where people could meet, learn from each other, and stay connected across teams. The concept existed from before, but was much less frequent, and less inclusive. I wanted to go big, include everyone, from Sweden to Copenhagen to Bratislava, and do it often and predictably.

Every Other Week

Every other week, I present for anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes to a hybrid audience of around 25 to 60 people. Some join us in the room, while others tune in remotely.

The agenda changes from one forum to the next, but often includes:

  • News from the wider front-end world
  • Updates from front-end teams across Gjensidige
  • Good things that have happened and deserve to be shared
  • Lessons learned from recent work
  • New critical issues the guild should know about
  • New frameworks, tools, and approaches
  • Updates from the design system
  • Arena for teams to share their work and experiences

A Shared Forum

FEF is not only a place for me to present. Some editions are held together with partners such as Itera, Capra, and Microsoft. Others bring in internal collaborators from the security guild, back-end guild, or design guild.

Those collaborations help us look beyond our own teams and connect front-end work with the wider organization.

50 and Counting

I have held more than 50 Frontend Forums so far, and they keep counting. What began as an initiative to strengthen the guild has become a dependable meeting place for Gjensidige’s front-end community: somewhere to share what matters, learn together, and keep moving the discipline forward.
